U.F.: Shakey Shakersons Edition

Shaking hands is such a precarious exchange. Outcomes are so uncertain. And less than stellar outcomes are so unnerving. It's no wonder that Howie Mandell and the Japanese do not like to shake hands. They really know what's up.

I must admit, when it's good, it's good. There ain't nothin' like a solid hand shake. This one time, I shook an old man's hand that felt like a big, warm, fluffy pillow. I wanted to curl up and take a nap in his palm (and use his long white beard as a blanket, but that's another story--this is about hands!). 

With that said, so much can go so wrong, so fast! Your shakee could have dead fish hand. Worse, painful kung fu grip. Worser, try something ~*funky*~. Worsest, cough or give the appearance of malaise. YIKES! 

Today I shook someone's hand (twice!) and it felt like it was going to snap off at the joint, leaving me standing with a hand in hand, blood everywhere. Very, very disconcerting.

FFWD

My blood pressure has been up lately. Rising, sloshing, boiling. It's safe to say that one can't operate on mere fumes for a sustained period of time. Desperately needing a reprise from the churn, but can't seem to see any end in sight. 

Work/school balance has left little ration for life. I keep saying that I'll start living next year. That both depresses and excites me. I'll be a better everything next year. A better friend, better wife, better writer, better reader, better penpal...and on and on and on. 

I wish I had one of those Adam Sandler fast forward life remotes. Of course, I didn't see the movie so I never learned the morals/repercussions of ffwding one's life. If not the remote, then can I get a little Christopher Walken?

I get to say "cunt" without sounding like a douchebag; I get to have relations with boys without having to take it up the back way; I can embrace the pretty and the cute when I want.

Some People are Toxic, Avoid Them

“There was in the sixties a man named Fritz Perls who was a gestalt therapist.  Gestalt therapy derives from art history, it proposes you must understand the ‘whole’ before you can understand the details.  What you have to look at is the entire culture, the entire family and community and so on.

Perls proposed that in all relationships people could be either toxic or nourishing towards one another.  It is not necessarily true that the same person will be toxic or nourishing in every relationship, but the combination of any two people in a relationship produces toxic or nourishing consequences. And the important thing that I can tell you is that there is a test to determine whether someone is toxic or nourishing in your relationship with them.

Here is the test: You have spent some time with this person, either you have a drink or go for dinner or you go to a ball game. It doesn’t matter very much but at the end of that time you observe whether you are more energised or less energised. Whether you are tired or whether you are exhilarated.

If you are more tired then you have been poisoned.  If you have more energy you have been nourished.  The test is almost infallible and I suggest that you use it for the rest of your life.”

This house is located on an island called Elliðaey near Vestmannaeyjar, a small archipelago off the south coast of Iceland. The house was given to singer, Bjork from her motherland as a “Thank You” for putting Iceland on the international map.
